Job Summary:

A Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lathe machines to shape metal or other materials according to technical specifications. They ensure precision in machining operations while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate lathe machines to perform turning, facing, threading, and other machining operations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Select appropriate tools, cutting speeds, and feed rates based on material type and project specifications.
  • Inspect and measure finished workpieces to ensure they meet quality and dimensional standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on lathe machines.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and proper handling of tools.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, and other machinists to meet production goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of machining operations, tool usage, and production output.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in operating manual and/or CNC lathe machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and measurements.
  • Strong knowledge of cutting tools, machine calibration, and machining techniques.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Basic knowledge of machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to lift materials and stand for extended periods.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or vocational training in machining or a related field is a plus.
  • 1-3 years of experience operating lathe machines in a manufacturing or workshop setting.
